“Hallelujah” Begins To Play As 12 Girls Look Up With Move Bringing Room To Tears
We’ve seen dancers tackle all different styles of movement – ballet, interpretive, hip-hop and jazz – but no performance compares to the Whangarei Academy of Dance and Performing Arts’ senior group’s showcase.
The girls in this highly trained troupe know how to bop across the stage with all of the grace in the world, and they did so to Leonard Cohen’s hit song “Hallelujah” perfectly. Their beautiful performance is something that everyone should watch at least once in their lives!
While reality television shows often make dance families and their teachers seem downright crazy, the WADPA school aims to end that stereotype once and for all. Instead of pressuring students to master skills before their ready, WADPA instructors focus on their students’ mental and emotional well-being.
The school says:
“At WADPA dance school, we are all about dancing and encouraging the development of children. We offer classes that range from pre-school to young adult in a safe and supportive environment. We are proud of the family-like environment at WADPA, encouraging everyone to follow their passion. We teach our classes with the aim to build up co-ordination, fitness, sense of rhythm, musicality and self-expression skills, but also life skills such as commitment and teamwork.”
After months of practicing to “Hallelujah” privately, it was finally time for the WADPA girls to show the world their collective talent. And boy, they did not disappoint!
Not only did the girls nail each move flawlessly, but they also looked genuinely happy doing so. Clearly, the school carried out their mission well with this group. They sashayed across the stage, smiling from ear to ear and moving together with ease.
The audience watched in awe as the troupe showcased their incredible modern dancing skills to Cohen’s hit song.
By the time Cohen’s voice faded from the speakers, the crowd was covered in goosebumps and the girls were bowing proudly! We can only hope they took home the top prize.
